Our Environmental Policy
Our personal and very individual health can only go as far as the environment we live in allows us to reflect. The way we relate to our families, our community, our natural environment is so crucial - our sincerety and integrity here will determine the future of the human race. At inSpiral we take this responsibility very serious - and whilst the journey might start with our focus on nutrition and personal health it is ultimately planetary health that we have in mind with our work.
So let us tell you about our share in this global puzzle:
Electricity
100% of the electricity we consume at inSpiral comes from renewable energy sources. The company we work with is called Good Energy and they are one of the top ranking ethical companies out there. We use a lot of energy due to the nature of our organization but we sure try our bit to minimize our usage. We have installed primarily energy saving light bulbs where possible. We employ LED energy saving technology. We switch off many of our appliances every night and use various energy saving gadgets - like an energy saving phone for instance.
Resources
We waste so much and it has been a shocking realisation how much rubbish even we create. But we are doing our utmost to keep our resources within the cycle of use and not dump it all into landfil - or to look into the rubbish we ourselves are creating! So here is what we do:
Recycling
We collect all our glass bottles, all our cans and all of our plastic bottles - they are collected by the council
- We collect all our glass bottles, all our cans and all of our plastic bottles - they are collected by the council
- All our cardboard is collected by FirstMile - a recycling company
- All of our tetra packs we bring to the recycling station at the local Sainsbury's
- We return our wheat grass trays to the supplier
- We also return many plastic trays to the vegetable supplier for reuse
We are now investigating a private collection scheme for organic waste which will be turned into electricity elsewhere. How cool is that!
Packaging
Our entire packaging range is either biodegradeable, recycled or otherwise eco friendly. We work with two companies, London Bio and BioPac , who specialize in eco packaging. Even our straws are made from corn starch, our forks made our of sustainable wood and our boxes made out of pressed plant fibre. We are proud to think that we do not burden the world with even more non-compostable rubbish!
We are also very vocal toward our suppliers and when we feel that a product does not meet our criteria, ie it has too much unnecessary packaging then we will not trade this product - simple as that!
On the other hand we support products that are forward thinking - like Aquapax , a water company that has launched the world's first fully recyclable tetra pack solution - very nice!
Water
Yep - we do try our bit when it comes to using water. Even though we are positioned directly next to the flowing Regent's Canal we are very aware that water is a finite resource and we all need to start conserving it! So here is what we do:
- We use a high effiiciency dish washer to deal with much of our washing up
- Our kitchen team are trainined in the conservative use of water
- We collect rainwater on our roof to water our plants
we support products of this great company and use them throughout the lounge to avoid nasty chemicals getting into our eco systems.
Transport
Many of our team live in close proximity to the lounge and cycle to work - not one of us is using a car - public transport is the way to go. For the occasional necessity we hire cars by the hour and to that effect we work with a company called WhizzGo - great service and really something that more of us should consider for our vehicle uses.
We also minimize the amount of artists we have travelling just for the purpose of their performance to the lounge and we alwasy try and combine bookings to reduce the need or single occassion travel.
