Nutritional Philosophy

At inSpiral we follow a strong nutritional philosophy and all our food choices are informed by this. If you want to have a look at what drives us check out this page...

All our creations are Vegetarian

All of our products are 100% vegetarian. We believe that if more people made this crucial transition we would live in a far more balanced, environmentally intact and healthy world. With rising temperatures, rising sea levels, melting icecaps and glaciers, shifting ocean currents and weather patterns, climate change is the most serious challenge facing the human race. The livestock sector is a major player, responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions measured in CO2 equivalent. This is a higher share than transport….Livestock are also responsible for almost two-thirds of anthropogenic ammonia emissions, which contribute significantly to acid rain and acidification of ecosystems. Also the use of land is nothing short of utterly mad when we consider that we live in a world in which large parts of the global population are undernourished and dying of starvation. By the way did you know that many wines and cheeses are not vegetarian?

Well, actually Vegan

Yep, we didn’t tell you but we are actually pretty much vegan, even our lasagna and creamy cheese cakes are. But so many people out there associate vegan with tasteless and drab – well, think again! We pride ourselves in delivering some of the finest tasting cuisine to the world that can easily sit next to any other major player – without compromises. Why vegan? Well think about it. Firstly there is the environmental aspect again – let’s look at what this industry does to our precious water: The livestock sector is a key player in increasing water use, accounting for over 8 percent of global human water use, mostly for the irrigation of feedcrops. It is probably the largest source of water pollution, contributing to “dead” zones in coastal areas, degradation of coral reefs, human health problems, emergence of antibiotic resistance and many others. The major sources of pollution are from animal wastes, antibiotics and hormones, chemicals from tanneries, fertilizers and pesticides used for feedcrops, and sediments from eroded pastures.
Then there is Land Degradation –  again a key driver is the expansion of animal farming. 70 percent of previously forested land in the Amazon (our global lung) is now occupied by pastures – doesn’t that want to make you cry? More is being cut down as you read these lines – its time to change our collision course.
So yes, our food is actually vegan – and its amazing!  If you don’t believe us come and try some of our home made ice cream, our cheese cakes or cashew cheese bakes – yum!

Live

A large selection of our menu is raw, based on the nutritional theories of live foods pioneered by the likes of David Wolfe and Gabriel Cousins. Whoever said that we should cook all of our food to death? It is so crucial to nibble on those greens – but, there’s a lot more to raw food then eating carrots and spinach leafs. Come and be surprised by some of our creations. Its vitality pure, packed with enzymes and nutrients to help you achieve the elevation of optimum health! We soak our nuts and seeds as the sprouting process unleashes their full potential, we dehydrate gently for hours to preserve our food’s nutritional value and use some pretty high potency ingredients.

Seasonal - we go with the flow

We go out of out way to include as much seasonal fruit and vegetables in our creations, reducing food miles and storage time. What’s the point importing beans from Kenya or apples from New Zealand? To this aim we are developing a four season menu and are keen to inspire about the health benefits of this way of eating. Where not possible we make sure that our foods are produced within Europe and by ‘politically correct’ countries.
We are also in the process of setting up direct links with local growers and farmers’ markets.

Organic where possible

We purchase as many organic products as possible and there are many reasons to continue to do so: Firstly organic farming methods are all about sustainability – you put back what you take out! Sounds good right. By avoiding pesticides and fertilizers there is far less impact on the environment and water courses. Despite various claims in the media we thoroughly believe that organic fruit and vegetables contain more nutrients and are therefore more healthy. They sure contain less harmful chemicals – seems pretty obvious really. To be working in harmony with the land seems like a much more sensible way to go forward than anything our industrialized agriculture has offered us so far.

Healthy First!

We are what we eat! Much of what our current society feeds itself is near toxic, dead and nutritionally empty food. Many of our current day common illnesses are a result of this trend. We need a massive rethink on how we feed our children and ourselves. This will have a positive knock on effect on every aspect of our global village! To that end we make a whole range of choices:
•    We choose alkalizing grains – like millet and quinoa to work with
•    We steam our vegetables and avoid frying in general
•    We use Himalayan crystal salt rather than commercial salt
•    We use spelt rather than wheat and offer many gluten free options
•    We soak our nuts and seeds to release their true potential
•    We use hardly any pre processed foods but make it all fresh in house
•    We even avoid using too much soya as it contains high levels of estrogen and is linked with environmental destruction
•    We throw in superfoods where we can to boost the nutritional value of the food

Super Foods - we pack 'em in where we can

We include superfoods in our smoothies, salads and ‘sweet treats’ – and hope to inspire our customers about the benefits of these power plants. These include the likes of: Maca, Camu Camu, Spirulina, Hemp, Purple Corn, Goji Berries, Acai and many more. We also have a selection of superfood products that can be purchased in store. These products are all about packing an unbelievable amount of nutritional value into a small amount of food – super charged. These can be used for instance to detox, vitalize and energize or to boost your immune system.

inSpiralize - cause there's a lot more to life than meets the eye

Vitality works on many different levels and we all too often forget about our intentions and hearts. We prepare our food because we want to contribute positively to people’s lives. Its not just about making money – its about health on a global level. Every morning we host an intention circle in our kitchen, the hub of our creations. We have ‘visionary’ food meetings where we make sure that our products are aligned with our higher aspirations

Nutritional Vision - the future

Yep – we do have a vision – and it is a large one. Its great being able to make our ‘visionary’ products available to those lucky ones who stumble across our path in Camden, but beyond that we want to grow and expand into the hearts and minds of many more throughout the land. Why do we have to concede the high street to soul less, profit driven corporate clones when we could use our spending power to support organizations like inSpiral that are driven by planetary health and the wellbeing of people? In the future we would like to:

  • Open more lounges – small ones and large ones
  • Improve and develop our Camden location - we have some pretty big plans
  • Develop a stronger mobile catering arm both for events as well as festivals
  • Run a fleet of healthy ‘ice cream’ vans – let’s start feeding our children real food!
  • Consult other organizations and schools on how to become truly vital!
  • Turn our website into a hotspot for all lovers of nutritional wisdom
  • Launch some of our finest products into global distribution (cause the world needs us)
